Brief History:

In 2009 the city of Avon conducted a visioning survey overseen by the Initiative Foundation of Little Falls. That survey identified and ranked a list of needs for the community of Avon. The survey identified the need for a community center as second on the list with the need of a grocery store ranked first.

In 2019 the Over the Hills of Avon senior group conducted a mass mailing with the purpose of identifying needs in the Avon area. Mailing included all rural routes of Avon. A ranking list was developed and again the need for a community center was identified. As a result of this survey, the Over the Hills senior group decided that an effort to raise funds to build a Community Center be undertaken. An application for a non-profit status was sought and received from the IRS. A board was formed to solicit funds, grants and In-kind services from potential donors.

With the help of the City of Avon and the Avon Lions, a location was secured at the site of the Lion’s park next to the new fire station addition. A tentative floor plan was developed. The building will be a one level 60’ x 100’ with a seating capacity of 160 to 200 people.

The cost estimate of building and furnishing the facility is 1.7 million dollars. Currently over $500,000 dollars have been raised. It is hoped that enough funds will be secured to start ground- breaking in 2026. The center will be home to several community and area events. We need your help to see this project through fruition.
